  •  I used to work for Met-Ed (3+ / 0-)

I'm now a retiree but I was assigned to Reading for about 2 years back in 1999. I liked the city. It was very affordable and a great central location too. However, by the time I left, it was apparent that the decline was beginning.

Met-Ed was a major employer. Like the other companies in Reading, family members recommended other family members for openings. I don't think it's the same since the Company was sold.

I really don't think those kinds of jobs will ever be coming back to the U.S. Even if all that money corporations are sitting on overseas comes back to the U.S., I don't see a reason for them to create jobs here.

I lived there in the 90's & worked @ GPU too.  Loved the city and the people.  Made some great friends there...

Small world. I started out at TMI, transferred to Parsippany (but commuted from the Poconos), went to Reading to work on a 2-year project, and finally retired.

From talking to folks still there after the company was sold, lots of changes.

But it was a good place to work.
