He appears to be a person of some brains.  Some common sense--not a genius (who among us are, really?)

So he's looking at something--an issue--where most of us would apply some common sense, and he walks into the propeller that is the Republican party.  Of which he is a member.  Of which he is the [acknowledged] front runner.  So what does he do?  He does what they all do:  he walks it back.  Because Republicans, no matter how good their thinking processes might otherwise be, can't get crosswise with the rightest wing of the right wing part of their party. And that is why every time, and in every instance, the Republican party represents loons.

"He appears to be a person of some brains."

Unless you meant something equivalent to "Bush's brain," in this case the Kochs.

Wouldn't he have a coherent position on abortion- the issue that seems to be at the heart of the Republican party?
I guess he could be smart, but just not interested in this whole politics thingy.

      Apparenly I'm a sanctimonious purist!

He is finding that the smarts exercised by a CEO do not automatically transfer to the political arena. It also explains why he hasn't selected better advisers for himself - he doesn't know that the skill set needed to be different.

      •  He DID have a coherent position. (0+ / 0-)

It was just the coherent one is unacceptable to the crazy R base.  So he's changing it to something nutty.
