  •  Why negotiate with any party actively working (0+ / 0-)

to undermine what has been the conceptual framework that a consensus agrees is necessary? That's an absurd exercise if futility! Clinton knows that even though she's prevented from saying it in public, by the fiction that criticism of Israel is equated with hostility.

    •  Because you negotiate to arrive at a solution (0+ / 0-)

You don't impose one on the end of a fist.

You really are the mirror image of a right-wing Republican. They say the exact same thing about Iran that you say about Israel. And you're both wrong.

      •  Realistically, though (2+ / 0-)

Both sides should be doing something . . . anything  . . .  that could be viewed by the other side as a good-faith gesture, a real signal that they are willing to turn the page and negotiate seriously and in good faith, and make the compromises necessary to get a deal done.

The absolute refusal to do so speaks volumes.

      •  You don't split a pie as one is greedily gobbling (0+ / 0-)

up as much as they can, hurriedly shoving chunks of pie into their mouth.

        That a fools errand.

        •  Israel can always annex the West Bank (3+ / 0-)

That would show that it really wanted to "eat all the pie." If Israel really wanted to "eat all the pie" it never would have withdrawn from either Sinai or Gaza and would have occupied far larger parts of Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt than it did. You've never explained why Israel, if it's as annexationist and expansionist as you say, didn't do all of these things - vastly increasing its size and controlling Sinai's gas fields in perpetuity in the process.

You're far more interested in punishing Israel than you are in peace. You really don't understand, and this is where you share a lot in common with your political "enemies," that you cannot bludgeon a people or government into agreeing with you. As I said before - you're really no different at all than those screeching for conflict with Iran - you're just screeching for conflict with Israel.

          •  Israeli Right wants the West Bank very badly IMHO (0+ / 0-)

The Israeli Right just doesn't want any of the Palestinians already living there.

So for now Israel's right wing government is hard at work to make sure Israel keeps the West Bank, while avoiding the thorny issue of what to do with the Palestinian people. I suspect inside Bibi's heart of hearts he hopes that one of his successors will some day carry out mass expulsions of Palestinians from the West Bank, something Bibi himself  doesn't have the stomach for.

          •  As for your attempt to impute my motives (0+ / 0-)

as punitive, that strikes me as wishful thinking on your part.

I'm most interested in achieving a just outcome for both peoples.
