Yoko is only 'critically lauded' by those sorts of people who are so contrary that they insist that something as bad as her singing is actually good and that ordinary people are 'too dumb' to get it. It's a form of artistic snobbery that I find hugely amusing. The audience reception to Yoko's caterwauling at Live Peace in Toronto (she was booed of the stage) says all that needs to be said. I was so tickled by the quote from the hapless Rykodisc executive who was stuck with the job of promoting her Onobox CD collection (if anyone was less deserving of a CD box collection than Yoko, I don't know who it would be.) Anyway, the poor fellow's comment was 'It's not as bad as you might think.' Respectfully, I disagree. It's just as bad as you thing. Worse, actually.
Apart from her singing, anyone who knows much about the situation will tell you that Yoko is a particularly nasty piece of work. I think this is what makes her a target beyond her horrible singing.
