    uses. Straight palm oil can actually be used as diesel. Only it soots a bit much. Palm oil mixed into regular diesel though, seems to be the hot ticket at the moment. The price of palm oil is very much tied into the price of oil.

    Also- it should be pointed out that palm oil is grown all over south east asia, not just Indonesia. Is it really fair to paint with a broad brush here?

      The vast majority of palm oil is used in the food industry. Biofuels is a small portion of it and the food portion has been growing on its own for some time.

      Fact is palm is in far too many products to take a demand-side approach to the problem. People simply can't be expected to change behavior to avoid it since it's in everything. The sad fact is we need to influence our leaders to make this product illegal to import, or nothing will change.
