I am not "afraid" of the Occupy groups -- and neither is the council, since they listened to what the Occupy group had to say.

The problem is when the Occupy group tried to prevent SOMEONE ELSE from exercising their right to speak to the council.

The council had the same obligation to listen to that man as they did to listen to OSD.

    •  City councils are supposed to engage in dialogue (0+ / 0-)

with their citizens. That's the point of having time set aside for public commentary.  Local governments are democracies, too, and are much more on the front lines of government.

This council needs to understand that or they'll likely lose their seats.

listen to other people as well as OSD.  OSD tried to PREVENT the council from listening to the public.

Why do you think that only Occupy groups have a right to speak to their government, and other people -- like the guy OSD prevented from speaking - do not have the same right?

The council understands that EVERYBODY has a right to speak to their government.  You apparently do not understand that.

        •  Sounds like (0+ / 0-)

SD City Council needs to convene regular town hall meetings with the public.  They need dialogue, not 3 minute sound bites followed by a gavel to adjourn.

The Occupy folks didn't prevent anyone from giving their message and attempts to continue to demonize OWS efforts overall will continue to fall flat.

          •  Will also add (0+ / 0-)

our family has vacationed in the San Diego area numerous times in the past, my favorite spot is the Del on Coronado Island.

If they keep acting like jerks, we won't be vacationing there again for a long time.  Looks like the same family boycott will apply for San Francisco/Oakland area, too.
