And journalists can't be activists.  They shouldn't even register as a member of a party. Why do so few understand professional ethics?  This one is a no brainer.  If you want an independent press you have to support those values.  Otherwise quit complaining about Fox

Intelligent, passionate, perceptive people will always disagree, but we should not let that disagreement, however heartfelt, lead us to become deaf to those better angels of our nature.

The founders assumed that journalists were full people, with ideas and opinions no different from anyone else, and no more able than anyone else to avoid their voices being based on their views and values.  They didn't require some superhuman "objectivity" of the press, they were familiar enough with human nature to allow human beings to be human beings, and only expected that journalists be by and large transparent about their views and motives.    The false and impossible to attain objective of media "objectivity" only serves to ensure that the nostrums, doctrines and categories of the dominant ideological construct are repeated and reproduced in the name of "objectivity". That's why they insisted on a free and unlimited press, so that all viewpoints could be expressed and considered.  After all, if this illusory "objectivity" were even within the realm of human possibility, who would need competing press sources?  One such news feed to rule us all, and in its brightness blind us.

      •  Editorial vs. Opinion in Journalism (0+ / 0-)

        Editorial side should be objective
        Opinions are different.
Full disclosure of allegiances is best.

        Journalism.....No fear, no favoritism.
        Justice is blind.
        Along those lines....

WNYC is great but "The Takeaway" is one of the more disappointing shows in their lineup. I don't know how many times I have complained about their distorted storytelling......a kind of stupid or ignorant or careless way of shading things.

      •  What do the founders have to do with it (0+ / 0-)

Journalism probably looks to Murrow more than Jefferson
