      Protestant religions. Catholicism gets rid of evil by confessing the sin and promising not to do it again. That's probably practical because guilt is a really stultifying emotion that often gets transformed into denial and then the perp does it again to "prove" it wasn't bad in the first place.  I think that's called "doubling down."
      Also, since the seven deadly sins seem to be obsessions (bad habits which are hard to break) which end up being self-defeating, a layer of guilt might well end up immobilizing the person.  Which, come to think of it, might be the whole idea--make him an impotent tool for someone else to use.

      On the other hand, if there's a deficit of common sense and a person's interactions with the real world are mostly negative, then being used as a tool may be a desirable alternative.
