  •  Apparently charters have dibs on empty space (16+ / 0-)

Toward the end of last school year, we were informed a charter wanted 10 empty classrooms to co-locate a charter at our school site. We offered them two rooms at opposite ends of the third floor, one room on the second floor, and the remaining rooms scattered among the bungalows we'd been using as 'temporary' classrooms since the mid 1960s.

I think they were looking for one of the second floor main building wings (8 rooms) and two office spaces on the first floor of the main building.

After they took a look at what we had available they decided to co-locate somewhere else.

We lucked out. Our principal could have told teachers to change classrooms to free up contiguous space for the charter, if he'd wanted to.

Since then, our principal was kicked upstairs (took a job at the local 'mini-district') and we have a new principal. Be interesting to see what happens next time a charter comes sniffing around at our empty classroom space.
