  •  My experience w/Tea Party members..... (11+ / 0-)

    They don't like the banks.

The problem is that they also don't like the people who bought houses they couldn't afford, and their focus is on this rather than the banks.  However, they don't like the banks either.

Nomi Prins has a video on youtube where she likens the housing crises to an upside down triangle, with loans at the tip and the various ways of betting on those loans taking up the rest of the triangle.

When I've shown this to TPers they are very surprised.  Same with the graph that tracks production and income trends over the last 30 years.

Fighting eachother will get nowhere.  Taking the time to point out challenging facts is far better.

Tea Party started -- with this rant:

Those people in the background are part of the problem:  Their trading activities caused the meltdown of America.

But the Tea Party sides with them.  And that's why I don't think challenging the hardcore will get you anywhere.

On the other hand, the Tea Party as a whole is really just the old Reagan Republican social conservative wing by another name. (For further proof, look at the 2010 elections.)

So yes, you may be able to reach them -- until they get home and tune into Fixed Noise.

First they ignore you. Check. Then they laugh at you. Check. Then they fight you. Check. Then you win. Check back. Or, if you aspire to be a mensch, Check in.
