  •  Actually, it seems like the fight AGAINST (6+ / 0-)

women's rights is what's getting bigger and bigger.  And I'm not sure why we haven't figured out how to fight back proactively yet.  I guess it's good that we can keep this crap off the books in some places but we should have our own legislative think tanks pushing expansion of rights!

    •  can't fight back really. (1+ / 0-)

it's going to be a perpetual defensive situation.

Standing up for men and their interests does not constitute misogyny.

Legalize and protect abortion, don't just rely on Roe.
Force insurance companies to cover contraception -- make it the law not just an executive order.
Ramp up funding for community clinics everywhere, and make sure it's against the law for them to operate without real qualified medical personnel or to proselytize.

Why can we be activists on getting gay marriage pushed to the forefront but on reproductive issues we're forced to be reactive?

        •  because gay marriage isn't legal everywhere yet. (1+ / 0-)

abortion is. once you have a right it's a matter of fighting to maintain that it. It puts you permanent defense mode unless the right is taken away.

    •  I see your point (0+ / 0-)

It does get depressing sometimes, doesn't it? But groups like Planned Parenthood, NARAL and others are fighting back. PP has brought many of the more egregious laws  to court, and won many injunctions.
That's why it's important to support these groups. They're fighting for all of us.
