    I remember the beginning well.

    My sense is that it kicked off the whole explosion of magical realism, though I recently read Pedro Paramo, which precedes it. Another book I'll have to re-read, but mercifully short.

    I remember being impressed, when I read Tale of Two Cities, that it both began and ended with famous quotes. Dickens was a pop-star, he knew how to fill his books with enough hooks to top the charts.
