    I rewatched it again just a few months ago. I agree with everything you said. And I loved how they tied up all 5 seasons by showing the young characters stepping into the places of older ones--Dukie becoming like season 1 Bubbles, Michael like Omar etc. It was one fine touch after another, always a new level of predation (e.g. the pols relationship with Stringer), more to think about with every viewing.

    I've never listened to the DVD commentary, though. Next time I rewatch (and there will be a next time) I'm going to try that.

      True that, and another thing that can be hard to swallow. You can come away from the series a little more cynical about the USA.

      They also had very smart casting directors and good luck, so they discovered as the show went on just how brilliant many of the supporting actors were, and expanded their arcs accordingly.
