    i hope you're successful, talking to your fellow officers. calm language from experienced policemen is gonna be the best deterrent to extreme behavior from hotheads on either side of the barricade.

    i've read a few diaries speaking about the post-9/11 'militarization' of law-enforcement, imo the existence of heavy-hand police capability makes it more likely that it'll be used inappropriately.

    the situation in Oakland, where hard-squads from 17 different departments were called in rapido, w/o having trained together, w/ minimal planning - that just wasn't ever gonna end well.

    thanks to the folks w/ phone-cameras & tube-savvy, the story got out quickly. it's a good thing when evidence of police (or anyone else's) misbehavior can be quickly broadcast - as the broadcasts will put violent behavior in a bad light, which will restrain the urge to foment violence.

    like Shamar Thomas said, "These people don't have guns! There's no honor in ths!"
