    Such a touching and heartwarming tribute you wrote for your friend, it gave me goosebumps when I saw our two diaries back to back in the community spotlight.

    It is interesting how different cultures celebrate the dead. Halloween, All Saints, Day of the Dead, all so close together.

    As far as your question, yes, both Halloween and Dia de los Muertos are celebrated in my community. Halloween, in fact, is huge in SF, people love dressing up, being creative, trick or treating for kids, partying for adults. Dia de los Muertos a couple of days later is more solemn and reflective. Perhaps like the difference between a Rolling Stones and a Leonard Cohen concert, it's both great music, but with a very different vibe. We love them both around here, but I personally always feel like I've come back home when Nov 2 arrives.
