This is an amazing effort in investigative reporting.

And it makes me profoundly depressed.

    •  Sorry gardenkitty, but this just has to come out (6+ / 0-)

so we can all experience the pain and work together to pull the thorn out of our collective foot.  If all their efforts continued unknown and unabated, our democracy has no future.  They have to be stopped and the first objective is to diagnose our pain before we can get a treatment option to cure.

They, often better than we, realize the inherent power of the public will in a representative democracy.

Which is why they spend so much time and money trying to pervert it, delegitimize it, manipulate it, etc.

If we are to put a value on the level of threat they see from active and engaged participation of the public based on the time and money spent on discouraging people from becoming engaged or fooling them or distracting them to manipulate how they become engaged (see Tea Party), they must see that risk as large indeed.

And as long as the forms and foundations remain intact the inherent power remains.

In fact, what we have seen in the last year is that even without such forms and foundations, the power of individual citizens bonding together in strategic nonviolent action to enforce or withhold the consent of the people has power to topple even the most powerful of tyrants.

We start with so much greater advantage than the people of Egypt, or Tunisia, or Libya, the only way we will fail is if we believe the lie of our own impotence and the docilely accept the futility of fighting for change.

You cannot solve a problem until you have fully identified its depth and scope.  This diary has just excavated additional parts of these ruins.

Don't be discouraged, be encounraged that we have begun another important step in that process while the vitality of our democracy is at the same time being renewed.

Someone in a very expensive suit is at the front door and says he wants to foreclose on our democracy. Where should I tell him he can put his robosigning pen?
