  •  Dennis! has solidified the main rap against him (4+ / 0-)

That he is always about Dennis! first. In 2008, when he faced several primary challengers, the main reason voters in the district gave for turning their backs on him was not their disagreement on policy but his run for President (I did a cover story on this race for my publication). When the Affordable Care Act was hanging in the balance, he played all coy and cagy with his vote until President Obama flew him to Cleveland on Air Force One to persuade him (interestingly, my congresswoman Marcia Fudge was also on that flight, but didn't grandstand about it). And of course, there was his threat to move to Washington or Maine or the Moon if necessary to keep "his" seat, which I suspect will weigh heavily in Marcy Kaptur's favor in this primary.

This map is an insult. It's about silencing voters, stripping Democratic voters of influence, diminishing their numbers in Congress and undoubtedly leading to less and less progressive outcomes. Does none of this trouble Dennis? His own new district is an abomination — it's a skinny string of communities along the lake shore from Cleveland to Toledo, over 100 miles, at points joined only by an uninhabited island and the Edison Bridge over the Sandusky Bay. It smashes the Toledo area into bits and severs western Cuyahoga voters from their companion communities on the west side of Cleveland and the southwestern part of the county. But it's OK with Dennis because somewhat more of the voters in it are his current voters than Marcy's?

No, Dennis. Just NO. My main issue is election fairness and here you are standing up for the kind of election trickery that makes some people shrug and say "Democrats would do it too." So wrong.
