I want some plan that actually could work where all the cogs get connected as well as we know how. All I ask is that it begin with the survival of intelligent life. People talk of tipping points. More and more people are realizing that the human life form as currently incarnated has the power to end intelligent life. And they realize that power exists because it is altering the ecosystem so radically. That is the Demon in the next Hero Demon war and now we need a Hero.

I would love for OWS to have a go at it. It currently exists outside the power structures and by being leaderless has yet more power. It is capable of organization - a successful general strike in 5 days! It is global.

I would like to see this worked as a Wiki, perhaps. I am not that techie, but OWS is bf with Anonymous who are. A wiki that anyone can contribute to. If I understand wiki's there is a democracy inherent to how they work. I am sure I could learn, but I am not the one to start it.

Given a manifesto the next step is to figure how to lean on the existing power systems to move toward it. It would not be necessary to hold political power - just influence it the same as multinational corporations do today. Instead of pull them down, we step ours up.

It would need to be summarized simply, and it would need to be respected for being right, as in based on facts. And it would need to be global in scope.

Few if any people are interested in that. Maybe for the right reasons. I'm going to take a crack at it anyway and I hope others will as well. Wiki and networked wikis is a clear place to start. I will answer this diary directly to give my basic approach.

If you and I see it there must be thousands. It is already latent and at some point will manifest itself and as it emerges it will become clear.

I would begin simply with preserving intelligent life. What would an intelligent life need to survive and what would get in the way?

Struggles always break down into friends and enemies. The problem is when we make people our friends or our enemies. They are actually neither. It is their actions that are either friendly or antagonistic toward a goal. We are all on the same side against the problem of survival.

And if survival is to happen we must then figure how that would look.

I am sorry to say I see no alternative but billions dying during this struggle unless we lower the carbon footprint per person way below the first worlds levels. The first world as we know it is the real problem as we are the ones with the heavy footprint. And sadly we will be the last to die. Please explain how I am wrong about this.

I try to get my head around the current situation and it is depressing as I will have to let go a lot of little comforts. The cure is to pay attention to the greater good - focusing on what I want most instead of what I want now. Survival is a great motivator.

        •  I really like what you said (3+ / 0-)

We are not in a place where we can point to this or that issue or this or that plan or way. I've tried to analyze the situation and realize that the best I can come up with is that we are part of an organism and we cannot think in the very big picture. We can only know that there is one and that we can't see it. But we can do what we can do and following our "heart" (however you define that) is the only path. Nevertheless that direction is clearly towards connection which is the "great reversal" we are facing. Bringing together people is our task, as far as I can see--for me it is anyway and I suspect it is, from what little I can glean from what you are saying, for you as well.

and gave it a shot with a system re-design from the core assumptions into operational systems. I got tired and left it for what it was. On my site I have a design that I call an open source thought network that might provide a framework for the continual spinning out of alternatives, experiments and building on success while nurturing alternatives that don't get much traction but may be good ideas. I don't have any activity on the site other than it being a repository of my own writing but if you want to use any of it, including using the site to collaborate with others in developing alternatives,  you can. By that I mean that I had exactly the same thought around the time you thought about it but a) quickly realized that nearly all people I had some association with were completely uninterested in it and I wasn't going to go spend my time in that way until I saw that one person was genuinely interested in it. And here you are. You built a nice little framework.

We must have a framework or we drown. For me, that framework exists inside me and I've outlined it. But most of us need to connect all the parts of our lives--there is no difference between art-politics-spirituality or anything in the sense those differences are usually thought of. All those areas of our life do have a discrete existence but there's something flowing through them that unites it all. We need that "something" to move to the next stage--there is no possibility of change, none without that journey. I feel it very strongly.

I like your site, thank you for caring about this and being there---I, for one, really appreciate it. If the flow feels right I'll be with you--there's a lot going on in my life right now and discovering your project really helps right now.

          •  There is a lot going on in all our lives (0+ / 0-)

I hear that. All of us are in one way or another trapped in the system we see the need to change. I have 3 kids and a decent stable job, my wife can only get minimum wage work on the weekends and we barely make it money wise. Many of us are like the character in Dylans song Maggies Farm.

I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more
No, I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more
Well, I wake in the morning
Fold my hands and pray for rain
I got a head full of ideas
            That are drivin’ me insane
It’s a shame the way she makes me scrub the floor
I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more

Our current system traps a lot of human creativity in the bind of ever more efficiently working to increase the most profit making enterprise. I haven't done much with the creative outburst that resulted in the thinking and writing I put out on my site. My ideas were driving me insane so I had to write them down. Thanks for appreciating and thanks for having a similar need to create something new.

Ideas drive us insane until we do something with them--in a way it doesn't matter what those ideas are--if they come from the heart they will have an effect. In my view they will have an effect whether or not anyone reads them or hears them. The very act of creating something, in itself, creates a kind of morphic field that attracts other ideas emerging. I believe consciousness has a powerful effect. In that sense I believe that happiness actually creates little particles of pleasure that directly influence the mood of others.

all of us to give birth to whatever grows in us that is part of the change we all need. I mean all in much the same sense you are implying in what you say, not just all people but all of our living reality.

The results of acting on these deep yearnings and creative impulses can not be known because we are all interconnected and the loops of causality are reciprocal and exceedingly complex. Our conversation is a good example, it is changing things we just can't tell exactly how, what when, how much or how all our other aspects of life to which we are continually connected respond and reverberate through their connection networks.

Not being able to know is a way of me contacting real hope.

I am enjoying exploring and it mirrors my own experience. I also have a meditation practice that is still transforming how I deal with the world.

In practice the world has become distracted by all the "things" and has become lazy in the art of loving.

I follow a practice developed by Eknath Easwaran who died in 1999 but he lives on in his writing. He wrote a small book called Thought for the Day that is available on line. Yesterdays thought was:

One that is not prepared to suffer all things, and to stand to the will of the Beloved, is not worthy to be called a lover of God. A lover ought to embrace willingly all that is hard and distasteful, for the sake of the Beloved; and not to turn away for any contrary accidents.
             – THOMAS A KEMPIS

Love is a sacred skill that we must work to maintain. And learning to bear up under changes in attitude and circumstance with an inner toughness is the best practice for loving. If we do not develop this kind of toughness, our love will not be strong enough to support the weight of close relationships.
One of my quarrels with contemporary civilization is the way it trivializes life. We have very little left that is sacred. In a scientifically advanced era, with the benefit of culture and education, we should grieve to discover that our love barely scratches the surface of life – no wonder, then, that it fails to nourish us. Loving is already something of a lost art.
When we finally realize we are missing out on something sacred, we may no longer know where to turn. Love is so exquisitely elusive. It cannot be bought, cannot be badgered, cannot be hijacked. It is available only in one rare form: as the natural response of a healthy mind and healthy heart.

OWS is a natural response of healthy minds and healthy hearts and is a cry from the heart.

Back to your link: I loved how you explored the boundary of the formed and the formless. Life is the flickering back and forth between the two. Love is not real unless acted upon into some form, yet it is not in the form. It is in the transformation of the form by the formless. We must listen to that inner source of creativity to discover what responses are possible.

For me meditation - I came to it late - is how I learn to train myself to listen for that response as it forms inside me.

I'm not all that sure #OWS can come up with anything most everyone can agree on, but our "Founding Fathers" somehow got 'er done. It's nothing short of amazing that our "Founders" not only won a war against the biggest baddest army of the day, but also got a brand new government up and running too. #OWS or spinoffs now face the same task. We can't afford to watch this unfold from in front of our computer screens. The Right will have us for lunch. We need to be in the trenches if we want any chance of "being the change." We can't do it by watching YouTube videos. We need to be in those YouTube videos! Opportunity has presented itself. I, for one, am not going to watch that parade pass by. I'm in that parade!
