Two years ago, a group of 4 Tea party leaning Reps won seats on the Wake County School Board to get a 5-4 majority.  They proceeded to eliminate diversity from the school assignment policy, something that had been in place for a long time and was well accepted as helpful by many people (most of whom unfortunately stayed home that day).

In October, 3 of the 4 seats held by Dems were retained by good Dem candidates, and the original Rep was defeated by a Dem.  But in the final race, the incumbent Dem Kevin Hill, just missed the 50% mark and is in a runoff with a Tea party Rep.

The existing board just passed (after the October election) a new assignment plan with no diversity provisions in it.  If Hill wins reelection, the resulting 5-4 Dem School Board will at least make changes to this plan, if not create a new plan.
