  •  Age 62 is fine for desk jockeys (6+ / 0-)

Age 62 isn't fine for those who jump out of airplanes, march many miles with heavy backpacks, or walk those steel decks while on midnight watches.

War is a young person's game.  After age 40, abused bodies tend to wear out.  I suspect most of those NATO folks were officers.

Besides, the military industrial complex wouldn't allow the nationalization of their profit making businesses.

people through the various parts of the military, putting older people at more desk and logistics roles as they age. especially if we reverse this misguided approach of farming everything out to contractors. there's a fair amount of useful experience being lost when people retire early that the military would do well to retain.
