  •  I read there are largely two theories (8+ / 0-)

on sexual harassment. One is that seemingly vulnerable women are more likely to be victims, and the other is that women who challenge the stereotypical female role are more likely to be victims of harassment.

It is supposedly based on a power dynamic and not an appearance dynamic, but younger women are disproportionately victims.

As an adult, I've always looked quite a bit younger than I am. It doesn't really bother me, except when someone once assumed that my 20-year-old son (who looks older than he is) was my date. But I could see how being treated like a teenager all the time would be frustrating.

I was voting today and saw a woman standing next to what I thought was her 10- or 12-year old son. I wondered why she had pulled him out of class in the middle of the day to watch him vote or whether he was homeschooled. Then she left without him, and a poll worker asked how many votes there were. The boy answered, "54, almost twice as many as last year," and I realized that the "boy" was a young woman with a slim figure and obviously an adult. I imagine she must struggle with that, too. I felt very bad for assuming she was a pre-adolescent boy.
