Likely just one jerk who wanted to throw her weight around.

Why the rush to get the ballots counted promptly?  Let them sit, sealed, and count them deliberately, accurately, and lawfully as soon as everything can be arranged.

The election officials that did not know the law should be fired.

    •  Their culpability for not knowing the law... (2+ / 0-)

... is at least somewhat mitigated by the fact that someone knew they didn't know and kept it from them, implicitly (or maybe even explicitly) affirming that their incorrect understanding of the law was correct.

      •  Impressive spin attempt. (0+ / 0-)

Why educate oneself as to the rules of the job if you can blame those that do.

Those non-Republican Board members are poor victims of competence.

merely to point out that the lone Republican election official, when confronted with their ignorance, decided that rather than assist them, she would cultivate their ignorance and then exploit it to the detriment not of her Democratic opponents but of the entire city. The Democrats may be oafs but she is clearly worse--she feigned the same ignorance they suffered from, instead of doing her job and ensuring that the election went off, for the express purpose of being able to sabotage the election-planning efforts.

She made sure to wait until the election workers had been mis-trained and it was too late to re-train them to do her job of seeing that the election was carried out according to law. Ignorant local officials is bad, but malicious local officials is much more serious.
