the detainees housed in their cities. It would create jobs. And those citizens aren't a bunch a fucking whiny chicken shit cowards. They're confident in their capability of providing adequate security.

Why is it again that we can't do that? Is it because we can't go around creating jobs? Is it because everyone outside these towns are a bunch of pansey-assed cowards?

Ds see human suffering and wonder what they can do to relieve it. Rs see human suffering and wonder how they can profit from it.

    •  It's because Republicans want an off-shore prison. (1+ / 0-)

Remember why Rumsfeld opened this facility in the first place - because it wasn't on American soil, but overseas, so the protections for detainees were weaker than they would be if they were held in federal prison.

We're leaving Iraq (Abu Ghraib).  We'll be leaving Afghanistan someday, too (Baghram).  Obama closed the black site prisons.  That only leaves Guantanamo.  Even though Obama is not using it as a torture-house, it would be relatively easy for a GOP President to do so if it remains open.

The nonsense about security threats from the detainees escaping is a bogus pretext.

Art is the handmaid of human good.
