  •  Mitt can't help himself. (5+ / 0-)

It must be in his genes.  The man cannot even pretend to believe in anything.  He is 100% pure pander.

    •  I'm a sucker for campaign narratives, (0+ / 0-)

but in this case it really is genetic.  Jack Germond, who used to be on the McLaughlin group, was quoted in Nixonland maybe as saying he had a button inserted to his typewriter (today we'd call it a macro) saying "Governor Romney later clarified that"

George Romney is of course most famous for claiming that he had been brainwashed into supporting the Vietnam war.

So was I, actually, but my excuse is that I was 13 years old.    I was certain that President Johnson was a great man and our government was patriotic and virtuous.  In some ways those things are true, but not in all ways.

I recall Tip O'Neill saying that he supported the war for as long as he did because he spoke only to the White House and the Pentagon.  It wasn't until late in the war, talking to veterans, that he realized he had been wrong.  He was one short step away from saying he had been brainwashed.  I can't condemn George for saying it.
