  •  Really was a shame about Brooks (0+ / 0-)

That man was such a lefty they called him "Red." He actually voted against a fellow Texan, Jim Wright, in favor of Phil Burton for House Majority Leader in 1977. The man had balls, and conviction to boot.

We had a lot of nutbars get elected here in Washington, too. We went from something like seven Democrats and two Republicans to seven or eight Republicans and only one or two Democrats. It was a slaughter. The worst loss was Speaker of the House Tom Foley, who was beaten by that slippery weasel Nethercutt. For all that, though, Nethercutt was relatively sane and relatively boring. The people who got elected on the other side of the state, on the other hand, were a whole different breed of crazy. Christian Coalition types and other assorted loons. Fortunately, several of them were knocked out in 1996, and all of them were gone except Nethercutt and Hastings by 2000.
