    I think it's a mix between teaching us to work together and teaching us to compete. Some schools, for example, have taken this to an extreme by rewarding everyone equally no matter how well they do so people don't feel left behind. In my eyes this is a celebration of mediocrity and does little to promote actual friendly competition, which I believe is what we need (as opposed to the dog-eat-dog cruel competitive nature of business).

    But I agree, we're taught that to win, another has to lose. There's no reason that we can't all strive to be the best we can be without making it at the expense of others.
