  •  it is interesting to me that when the military.... (0+ / 0-)

personnel are active, they vote republican in landslide numbers.  when they get out, they cry woe is me, i can't make it.   Mr. Democrat would you please help me?  Sorry, no fucking sympathy here.  You drank the kool aid; you pay the price.  I realize that it's not all of the military, but it's a damn majority of them.  Sometimes you have to throw the baby out with the bath water!!

Show me a politician that doesn't want to gain, and/or hold onto power, and I'll show you one who can't get elected.

...of how treacherous the R party can be around people who are economically disadvantaged ("it's their own fault they're not rich" a la Herm Cain).

Vets should be brought back into the Dem fold and reminded that even though R's jawbone about "national security" and "honoring the warrior", it's all BS.

    •  Sorry, can't agree (0+ / 0-)

sometimes the best Democrat is one who was screwed by a republican. Look at FDR. When the wars wind down there are gonna be a lot of vets getting screwed in the name of austerity . If they can't turn to the D's, where then?

    •  This trend is the result of the Carter (0+ / 0-)

Administration failing to address the needs of the then new all-volunteer military force.  Carter did nothing about the replacement of the G.I. Bill with the Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP).   VEAP was a pathetic excuse for a post-service educational benefits program.  Carter also left military compensation at conscription pay levels.  The Reagan Administration addressed both of these problems.

The GOP has become the "Jerry Springer" party.
