I'm not sure if the most pertinent distinction is black candidate vs. white candidate as it is between Republican and Democrat. The instances of "It's OK If You're a Republican" syndrome are all too many. I mean think about it for a minute. Within my lifetime the Republican party has nominated for President Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, two Bushes, and John McCain. High-functioning brains, sanity, and wide knowledge of the world and how it works are not desirable let alone essential qualities for a presidential candidate. I think it is remarkable how little indignation has come from the ranks of Republicans and conservatives over the Herman Cain allegations. Perhaps the right wing is more sexist than racist?
