violent crime.  Property crimes continue to get more attention because it is more easily quantifiable.  Violations of human rights, whether by public officials or private individuals take a hind seat, especially when children are involved because children are technically the property of their parents. So, their abuse isn't a violation of their human rights, which they aren't recognized as having, but of their parents' interest in their property. If the parents are careless, there's little incentive to prosecute.

The consequences of denying the rights of the child are multitudinous.
