    ...points to something. The obvious thing is that if they believe the right-wing propaganda then they are simply not educated in the sense we have come to understand, i.e., people who follow in the western humanist tradition. They may be "smart" in the sense they have some cleverness in certain limited parts of their lives but the fact they believe made-up fantasies supplied by purveyors of ideas is not the fault of the purveyors.

    I personally have no patience for people who directly deny science--yes, science should be criticized but the entire enterprise of science should not be thrown out the window if it does not conform to comforting fantasies.

    The other thing it points to is that we are experiencing a time when people seek and attach to comforting fantasies as a rule. We are experiencing collective insanity and that extends beyond the community of religious cultists and climate-change deniers.
