  •  What realy happened makes a much better movie! (4+ / 0-)

I knew that the Spartans were bad, just not that bad.  That story would make an amazing movie.  Too bad Hollywood is unlikely to make it.

The rise of democracy seems to be linked to the existence of democratic weapons.  The Greek Citizen-Soldier did not need an expensive horse or fancy armor and his weapons were something a commoner could master.  Later the Swiss pike man also wielded a democratic weapon, the Pike.  The American revolution also utilized a democratic weapon: the Musket.

Given that modern armies are moving away from being centered around weapons used by and wielded by the commoner to ones like drones, GPS guided bombs and advanced cruse missiles (not things that can be assembled in small workshops and used by citizen soldiers without considerable infrastructure), does this mean that democracy is in danger?

Under capitalism man exploits man, under communism the roles are reversed.
