    bunch of high-school kids here in Oakland, although they were too young to appreciate it, why the Occupy movement happening downtown is such a Big Deal.

    The powers-that-be, from as far back as I can remember (I was born in the 60s), until a very short time ago, had it much better locked-down. We had a consolidated mass media, and mass culture, which promoted no "unofficial" viewpoints. We had ironclad cultural taboos against "rocking the boat," so people were totally into submission to authority, for decades. Here all that is thrown into question, in time for the coming-of-age of people easily young enough to be my children.

    It's heady times we live in.
