  •  How about trying phone calls? (10+ / 0-)

This is a trial balloon and we can shoot it down.  There's nothing that escapes from that committee without the members wanting it to.  Somebody is trying to see if they can slip this pathetic little plan past the Democratic base.

Before we get to the pitchforks, get on the phone and tell your rep NO! HELL NO!  we're not falling for this again!

My guess is, we can shoot this down.

Your individual members exert some influence over this Committee.  Push them to use it.

a shitty bill to come out of the committee, so they can vote against it and see if the GOP is equally dumb.  Do they vote for medicare cuts and tell their base they did so because they kept taxes on the rich for going up?  Yes, please.

      •  That's a very interesting take, is it a trap? (1+ / 0-)

I really hate this 11 dimensional chess stuff, but you've raised an interesting point.

If Baucus joins the Repugs, the bill that comes out of committee would be all cuts, and many to Social Security and medicare,  and no revenue increases.  Now it goes to the full Senate, and ALL but a couple Dems and Lieberman vote against it.  Now if Obama veto's it, the Dems look like the guys who fought to protect Social Security and Medicare, while the Repugs are the ones who voted to make the cuts, again.

Nope!  It makes too much sense, the Dems would never go for it.
