  •  Occupy the Brooklyn Bridge (1+ / 0-)

In addition to the march on the pedestrian section, perhaps use a few cars, also. On the Brooklyn Bridge march, a few people who have personal cars and can also afford to have them towed and impounded (which probably costs less than parking in NYC), could intentionally disable their vehicles.

It's easy to do for anybody: At the agreed-upon time, two or three vehicles in each direction cross the bridge and act like they are having car problems, and turn off your car. Don't pull over- block the road.

Then open the hood and cut your spark plug wires (they will look like the red wires in this picture, but could be black or another color: http://www.filtsai.com/...).

You will need a pair of bolt cutters (apx $15-20) or some garden shears. There is no electrical risk at all when the engine is turned off. And the repair will cost less than the tow. But it will totally disable your vehicle and require it to be towed, which will tie up the bridge traffic for potentially hours, especially if multiple cars are involved.

This will effectively close the bridge for hours- so to prevent the NYSE from opening, start early: 7-8am. And perhaps continue throuhout the morning.

The 1% doesn't commute into NYC from Bushwick.  They come down the West Side Highway or commuter rail.  It wouldn't stop the NYSE from opening; it would just force a bunch of small businesses from opening. (there's a big small business district right over the Brooklyn Bridge by the LES)

Thanks for the "strategery" notes. The Occupy ppl are already planning on using (tying up) the subway, hope they also extend it to the above ground rails and, as you mentioned, there are better bridges to block- please point them out.

getting home from work.  Sounds like a fucking great plan.

Because tying up all of the roads or rails might obstruct other 99%-ers from getting to their regular jobs- an alternative might be to focus large numbers of people at the stations that serve the most frequent Wall Street travelers- both the stations near Wall St and the ones where many 1%-ers come from. Wear suits- stand around- extra people on cars will slow everything down.

I still think a few uses of the disabled cars could work.

        •  Is jamming up public transit really a good idea? (0+ / 0-)

Surely blocking Private cars in Manhattan is the way to go.

Swarm with squeegees? Use swarms of slow moving bicycles? Very annoying and it will provoke cops into stupid arrests that will
          make cops look like arseholes.

A Catholic, Jew, Muslim and Buddhist walk into Al Aqsa Mosque. Buddhist immediately exclaims: "excuse me I appear to be in the wrong joke."

    •  Some cars no longer have exposed wires. (0+ / 0-)

Just say your brake pedal went to the floor and you stopped with your parking brake.

Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.
