It always amazes me how easy the praise for America's freedoms and democracy comes from people like Mayor Bloomberg, or just about any of the Republican presidential candidates, until it comes time to actually back their words up.

On countless specific issues, when these politicians have a real chance to actually validate and underline their support for our rights, they invariably side against them, and throw their support behind increased government power.

We've seen it with waterboarding, we've seen it with the lawless program of indefinite detention at Guantanamo Bay, and we saw it last night with the violent and thuggish crackdown on peaceful protesters in Zuccotti Park.

I wonder if any of these politicians realize that with every defense they make of these horrible abuses of power, they put themselves at odds with the Bill of Rights.

...by whatever creative means the protesters come up with (which is what I've been reading lately), Bloomberg will have no one to blame but himself for what he provoked today.  I'm willing to bet good horse money that he is going to have a 'TURK 182!' problem on his hands.  Come to think of it, that might not be such a bad idea!
