school funding is derived from a fairly complex funding formula in which schools are required to get within $100 of public funding of other districts.  That is, the charter school nearly certainly gets the same public funding as other schools.

What sets this school apart is the private funding through the foundation (that is, the $5000 a year per child people are expected to pay voluntarily).  This is one of the nasty pernicious effects of prop 13.  By cutting the legs out from under public funding of schools, the disparaties between rich and poor got vastly worse, because of course the rich can always afford to make up the difference.

So, this is a diary that really doesn't seem to grasp how school funding in California works.  It strikes me as essentially dishonest.

Intelligent, passionate, perceptive people will always disagree, but we should not let that disagreement, however heartfelt, lead us to become deaf to those better angels of our nature.
