in Santa Clara County is "middle class", then my spouse and I, with a household income of 1/4 that before he retired, and now maybe 1/5 of that under his pension, are poverty level.

There are plenty of families in Santa Clara County who make nowhere near a quarter of a million dollars a year.

    •  Huh? (0+ / 0-)

$250K is not middle-class.  That was my point.  Did you reply to the wrong post?

Demographers define middle class as 80 to 125 percent of the median income.  $250K doesn't fit that.  Neither Los Altos Hills nor its budget cousin Los Altos are middle class by any measurement.

A really great tagline appearing here soon! Watch this space!
