It was revealing for me, as I did the research, and I think it would be revealing for other people, also.

Unfortunately, the regressives have given us a bad name, when there is so much good here.

To be honest, in many ways, the old Iowa GOP of the '60s wasn't so horrible. Bob Ray was a centrist. My ex mother-in-law was a GOP state Senator and she sponsored pro-choice legislation and was a tireless worker for trying to get the ERA passed.

Back in the days when Iowan's treasured our Universities and K-12 schools, when there were no Christianist Academies. When bad roads would be grounds for action by R's as well as D's.

Then Branstad and the bad 70's porno mustache brigade took over in the early 80's, Robertson's campaign highjacked the GOP for the bat shit crazy wing.

That bastards murdering sonofabith son of his lives 4 houses away. What a douchy neighbor.

And now the stache has installed that dumbass from Brooklyn who is the IFA chair into the Regents?

I have to admit, stache was smart to pick the skank as his Lt, she's a dumb as a hog lot crap pond- no one would do anything to him if she was going to be the one who took over

I didn't move here until 1992 and firmly believed that my family and I would move on within 5 years. I was in a grad program and had enough in my head with just that, so frankly didn't pay any attention to Iowa politics at the time. I have been waking up to it over the last few years, but I still don't know much about Branstad's early years.

Bob Ray's Lt. Gov., Art Neu, lives in my town. He has said that in today's Iowa GOP, he could not be elected dog catcher. The same with former GOP Lt. Gov. Joy Corning who served under Branstad. Corning has served on the board of the Iowa chapter of Planned Parenthood. She and Neu were part of a group urging retention of the Iowa judges who ruled against the Iowa DOMA.

          •  Didn't Art endorse Culver? (1+ / 0-)

Yeah, I forgot about him, another moderate.

I wonder to this day why Ray picked Braindead, what a way to ruin an otherwise decent legacy.

Disclosure- I used to attend some parties with the Ray daughters when we were in HS- I mean not dates or anything, but we had mutual friends- and definitely NOT at Terrace Hill (keggers).

            •  Art opposed Steve King (1+ / 0-)
              Recommended by:

in each of the last 3 elections. In '06 he wrote a letter to the editor of the local paper that was very critical of some of King's statements. Neu included King's statement calling Joe McCarthy "a great American hero." Neu encouraged people to write in an independent candidate. In '08 and '10, Art endorsed the Democrats running against King.
