    That is not unlike the situation in Greece.  There had already been a year or so of militant struggle by Athens students over police violence when the economic issues hit the fan.  There was already this highly energized, experienced militant core that was ready to  play a leading role in the anti-austerity struggle.  It's made sense to me immediately that Occupy Oakland would be more advanced in a militant direction than many other locations because I'd have to think that at least some of the core group have already been through the struggles around the murder of Oscar Grant.  In a political movement as distributed and locally-rooted as Occupy, those sort of community specific factors will play huge roles in shaping how the movement manifests in different communities.
