Not too many amateur groups will attempt Missa Solemnis. Here is a story about the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus doing just that.

I sometimes play with them, but I had to miss this concert because of a long standing Messiah Concert I play in Westchester, near LAX.

Help! The GOP is NUTS (& the Dems need some!)

I used to sing with the symphony chorus there. An absolutely fearless group—they've done just about every major piece you can think of.

Unfortunately, the symphony folded, but the chorus has kept its tradition going. This year, they're doing "Le Roi David" and a few other pieces. (But in years past, they've sung with the Philadelphia Orchestra and others, in everything from new operas to Missa Solemnis, the Berlioz Te Deum, and even Rachmaninov's "The Bells"—even if it was in English!)

It was an amazing group to be part of, and it was one of the things I regretted most about moving away from ABQ.
