  •  Which is why we have to include it in the (0+ / 0-)

counter offer.  Let them say no to something that they hold as dear as Democrats are supposed to hold Medicare.

I don't think the Republicans would do it, and Hensarling is just looking for a little press, but if they can throw out preposterous ideas, why can't we come back with ideas that polls show Americans support?

    •  There doesn't need to be a counter offer (12+ / 0-)

to this. It's not serious and it's not a plan.

Honestly, at this point offering up anything else on the Dems' part would be pointless.

Nothing happens if this committee fails. The nation doesn't blow up, Moody's and S&P won't care. It's not like the debt ceiling. Failure is entirely an option.

      •  I'd pay good money to see this: (3+ / 0-)

Final meeting of the Super Committee, Democrats on one side of the table, Republicans on the other.

Democrats: Okay, we've got a deal for you.

        Republicans: What is it?

The Democrats get up en masse, and walk out of the room, leaving a piece of paper with writing on it.

        Hensarling: What does it say?

The piece of paper is turned over by an aide, revealing the words, "Stick it. We're out of here. Have a nice day! :-)"

      •  Exactly. It reinforces the notion of a do-nothing (2+ / 0-)

        Republican party.

Aside from running a bunch of lunatics as presidential candidates, the inability to enact legislation will be a strong indicator of the failure of the right.

Hopefully, people will remember the lesson a year from now.

      •  And if they pull the trigger (0+ / 0-)

The republican will bend over backwards to reappropriate the money for DoD. Republicans are going to increase government spending before an election? That will be rich...
