  •  What really makes me angry is that Medicare (18+ / 0-)

was doing just fine before the Repukes pushed through the drug benefit.  In it, they banned price negotiations, gave subsidies to insurance companies (Advantage), and subsidized large employers who pay health care for retirees.  Their plan was to make Medicare too expensive to keep.  That was in 2003.  Now they're ready to dismantle it because it's too expensive.  Piss on 'em.

The structure of Part D didn't help -- but Medicare's reimbursement expenses were still outstripping inflation by a pretty good clip and drug coverage is still a small slice of the Medicare pie, relatively speaking.

IPPS always was and remains Medicare's biggest problem.

Every little bit helps and a Part D reworking would help, but Medicare's costs are still heavily bound by over utilization in inpatient care and spiraling costs of those procedures.

Full Disclosure: I am an unpaid shill for every paranoid delusion that lurks under your bed - but more than willing to cash any checks sent my way

I just remember the meme at the time Part D was passed that it was the intention of the Repukes to kill Medicare.  I still think that's true because Repukes were so anxious to pass it.  Remember the 3 hour roll call vote?  I guess we (they) have to figure out how to lower in-patient care costs, because destroying Medicare isn't an option.
