And if you're a Congressional Democrat on the "Super Committee", this is one of those times.

I have to say they have positioned themselves well for a Super Committee failure to reach a deal.  They have offered compromise after compromise (some of them fairly odious from our perspective) only to have them repeatedly rejected by Republicans.  They have put benefit cuts to all three entitlement programs on the table in exchange for some relatively minor tax increases on the upper classes which are not even equal to the amount of the entitlement cuts, and the Republicans throw it back in their face.

Now we have a Republican committee member saying they will reject any deal that includes so much as a penny more in taxes for the upper rich and polls showing that by a 10 point margin, voters will blame Republicans for a Super committee failure.  That's why, politically, a Super committee failure may be the best outcome for Democrats.

Let's hope they don't snatch defeat from the jaws of victory as they have done so many times in the past by signing on to some crappy all cuts, little or no added revenues deal floated by Republicans at the last minute.  Fingers and toes crossed!
