the last house i owned (i'm renting now) the builder had sodded st aug. in the front yard, but left the back bare clay. I went to the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center and asked the Master Gardeners on staff what was SUPPOSED to grow here. They sold me a variety of buffalo grass that worked really well, took little water, etc.

Every year, my front yard would die and my backyard would look like a field of thin green blades. of course, even that was a compromise, since in my soul I despise lawn grass...I mowed too much as a kid, and for the rest of my life the front yard area can be sand and rocks. I'll take zen meditation over dehydration.

When I mention xeriscaping here, I still get looked at like I've proposed eating babies.

It's america, though...we'll be on the titanic having arguments about how Jesus told me exactly how the deckchairs should be arranged, and aren't you glad we gave up the lifeboats so that the captain could keep his bonus?

The Texas Miracle is that, after years of Perry, we don't look like a Tent Revival Thunderdome preaching to the uninsured. Oh, wait...
