I know there are so many reasons to be pulled strongly one way or the other in politics...  but it's no longer uncivil - it's vile.  Even those in DC that I don't agree with EVER, I can't see them as evil people, yet that's the norm today.  It seems mostly a media driven issue, but...

    - Can it really be that way day-to-day when working in person with other elected officials?  Are there adults in the room that can work together?

    - How do you see your role in working across the isle - moderating and managing legislation to find solutions to important issues?

with most Republicans, but I stick to my guns when I think that's required. I don't think we should agree to cuts in Medicare and Social Security, for instance, in the name of bipartisanship. I've compromised just about every important legislation I've worked on in the legislature and in Congress, but I've tried to keep in perspective what I can compromise and what I need to take a stand on.

I agree & thanks for the response.

It seems the rational people first look to compromise and the extremist first look to their guns...  and that means the adults usually give in more initially.  It's also truly important to be tough when needed.  I can't imagine the balancing act required to get anything accomplished - or even staying sane in what must feel like a circus most times.

If you're honest and true to your beliefs, then your actions will usually turn out good - and that seems to reflect your time in DC.  I'm just very worried about many issues facing our country right now (jobs, economy... can't remember the third thing... education, energy) that any idle time due to irrational behavior costs 'we the people' dearly...  and hope you can find some ways to move things forward.

is the way he says the same things behind closed doors as he says when making speeches. I agree with what you say about honest actions leading to good results. Very important.
