  •  Um, except that the debt ceiling was raised. (0+ / 0-)

And raised enough to take us through the 2012 elections, meaning no more debt-ceiling stunts by the Republicans.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, we're right back where we were before the debt ceiling fight.

who actually believed there was not going to be a debt ceiling increase are the ones who ignored all the people who kept saying "there will be an increase in the debt ceiling' Mitch McConnell and Eric Cantor.

said he got "98% of what he wanted" in the debt ceiling deal. How many people around here were quoting him as if he had a clue?

And he's still saying the Super Congress will come to an agreement. How many people are buying that one?

You seem to be telling us that we ought to believe what Republicans say. Is that your point?

My point is that we all should look at the futility and stupidity of negotiating with Republicans. Especially on an issue like the debt ceiling where we CLEARLY and OBVIOUSLY had the upper hand.

If the super committee fails, it only confirms that fact. Republicans never intended to come to any grand bargain with Democrats because guess what...they could do it right now! So what was the point?

          •  The problem with your argument (4+ / 0-)

is that the Republicans DID make a deal on the debt ceiling. And they got took - its coming back to bite them in the ass now. That's the whole point of the article Joan linked to.

President Obama and the Democrats took that hostage threat and turned it into a situation where they have all the leverage. Republicans want to restore defense cuts??? What do you give in return?

In fact, the Republicans are shitting themselves so bad over this right now that they're crying for Daddy Obama to come home and save them from the mess they created.

For all your bluster about being a tough guy, its funny to watch you always miss when your allies have the upper hand.

This would be one of those times. And its amusing to watch.

          •  You STILL don't get it? (0+ / 0-)

You STILL think Obama was actually negotiating with Republicans in good faith?

It's November, and you still believe this?

Even after everything he "put on the table" not only disappeared from the agreement, but was explicitly protected from the triggers?

It's just amazing how far people will go to pretend they weren't wrong.

Yes, I recall you were one of the "11th dimensional" advocates who ignored everything the president said publicly, all of his actions, the policy statements of his advisers, the political activities of his support organization and said that the Grand Bargain was a a brilliant political "head fake" designed to cause a collapse in the polls.

              I remember that distinctly.

      •  Sure there would be an increase. But at what cost? (0+ / 0-)

Absolutely, there was going to be a bill passed that raised the debt ceiling.  The only question was, what would be in it?

I don't see what your response has to do with the point you brought up, about us being "back where we were before the debt-ceiling debate."  No, we're not.
