  •  "Gone silent" ???? (0+ / 0-)

"Gone missing" came into vogue when FAUX started using it when a woman was drowned in San Francisco Harbor a couple of years ago.  Lacy did not 'go missing,' her husband murdered and dumped her into the bay.  What is so difficult about saying, 'Lacy is missing,' before her body was found?

Most English usage manuals regard it as "barrack's language and slang."  It's like chalk screeching across a blackboard.

The campaign signs did not go missing (not being known for the ability to walk), someone stole them!

I asked you politely to reconsider your use of coarse language, which reflects upon the user.  Your explanation shows you have failed to understand the basic elements, which should probably be blamed upon your high school teachers.

My cousin is an long time English professor at Colgate University, and he agrees with me about this matter.

Glad we can agree about environmental concerns, if nothing else.

    •  You're funny. "My cousin ..." was a nice touch. (0+ / 0-)

Actually, I thank my 12th grade English teacher because he's largely responsible for why I was allowed to skip the second semester of freshman English in college.

You must be pretty busy here correcting people for their use of slang and barracks/coarse language.  You weren't a hall monitor in grade school by any chance?
