    Tiny little side note:  "Krovovoe voskresen'ie" is in a literal sense correctly translated as "Bloody Sunday," but idiomatically/conceptually that translation does not catch what this phrase would mean to a Russian (as opposed to an Irishwoman or American).  A better translation would be something along the lines of "Bloody Resurrection" or "Rebirth in Blood."

    Whereas in English, the word used as a name for the day commonly used for Christian worship comes from pagan roots, in Russian the word for the same day comes from the same root as the term used to celebrate Christ's rebirth in the Easter service.

    Anywhoo, thank you for this post!  Powerful stuff, however you translate the words.
