    namely perceived privilege.  Many whites view themselves as privy to a number of privileges which in practice they are not.  It is part of the myth of upward mobility so whites may think anyone can go to college, start a business or earn a million when even among whites there are many barriers.  Of the 1%, 70% of their fathers were also 1%, which speaks to a static, stratified society where most individuals do not make a million.  However it seems even the illusionary privileges are defended tooth and nail
