    But this is an important one.  They hyperbole and exaggeration around here is getting ridiculous lately.  Easily disprovable exaggerations and overheated rhetoric risk ruining whatever credibility the users of this site have built over the years.

        I can't believe how upset the people were around here over just a few dozen police beatings and instances of documented brutality over the last couple of weeks!

        C'mon, people, let's talk about how many people DIDN'T get beaten by the police last week.

          I'm upset.  I sent the video to all my friends over e-mail.

          Nobody is complaining about people being upset.  

          We are complaining, in this instance, about the hyperbole in regard to whether a specific term accurately applies to the state of our society.  And more generally about the more general hyperbole, on almost every topic.  Want another example?  In this diary I compiled just some of the things people have said in regard to I/P lately.  Read those and tell me that it isn't ridiculously hyperbolic.  And that's just one topic of many.  It happens on every topic, probably even cats at some point.
